Thanks for being interested and reading this section.
Born in a country side in China, I have grown up with countless love and care from my big family especially my loving grandmother, parents and brother. I feel very lucky and also honoured to have such a great family in which everyone of us loves, cares and supports each other. I am also a person who respects, cares and loves people because I know how great it is.
For most of the time, I stay positive as I believe it leads to positive output. This also applies to my diet and fitness. I always try to eat healthily and do regular exercise to keep myself mentally and physically fit . Being organised is also a very important part of my life and work as it helps me manage things in an efficient way. Nothing is impossible or unachievable. It is all about to do or not to do. Nowadays, procrastination has become a common problem that hinders most of the people from achieving what they want in their lives. It becomes a habit of their life and work, which not only wastes their own time, but also inhibits the efficient operation of the whole chain where a lot of people are connected with each other.
Personal statement: Life is not just about what we have seen or experienced, the essence lies in what we have learned from it and using it to help us create a better future for the society, the community and ourselves. As a person who puts oneself more in concerns for the sustainable state of society and nature, I think any developments should be based on positive impacts on the human and environments. The reason why my attention has been grabbed by the thought of the renewable and sustainable is because the world is developing in the price of excessive and wasteful consumption of the finite resources on our planet, which is unreasonable and dangerous. Unfortunately, many people have been blinded from this fact by many desires. I am a dreamer who has grown up in dreams most of which fortunately have come true one by one because of my strong willingness, everlasting efforts and immense love&supports from family and friends. One of the current dreams is getting myself involved in the development of energy solutions and management methods to help grow sustainable businesses which care about people, the society and the nature. I would also like to devote the rest of my life in this career and meanwhile making more and more people aware of the importance of a sustainable world. This is going to be a bumpy trip but I will never give up as I do believe actions do make changes. I also hope more and more people can join in this mission.
I always admire the beautiful way that the nature maintains the massive eco-system in a smart and high efficient way. With my special affections for the nature, I have been looking for inspirations from the nature and making our world more environmentally friendly by powering our world efficiently with the renewable and sustainable energy and management. In my opinion, the actual reason of global warming is not because what type of energy is used, but because of the inefficient and excessive way of using energy. We must appreciate the beauty of simplicity and reconsider the necessity of energy use in many areas. Efforts must be made to improve the energy use efficiency either by improving the system or recovering the waste heat.
Finally, I gradually feel the increasing responsibility that I have of changing the world into a better place for the society and the nature. Many thanks to all those people that I have met in my life, I must admit everyone of you has helped me in different ways recognize who I am, what responsibility I have for myself, my family, the society and the whole world.
Knowledge and Speciality (Heating, ventilation, air conditioning, fluid dynamics, and thermoelectrics): I have specialised in hydrodynamic and aerodynamic drag reduction in the first year of my PhD. The exciting part was getting inspirations from the dolphin and shark’s low drag swimming abilities, and investigating the possibility of putting them into engineering practices to enhance the energy efficiency. Insights and interests have also been shed on other bionic areas like the “lotus effect” which is able to create functional surfaces with the properties of water-repelling, drag reducing and self cleaning. Now I am focusing on the research of thermoelectric applications which can be used as heat engines and power generators in a wide range from micro-scale applications like electronics to macro-scale applications such as industries. My current effort is being made on developing domestic thermoelectric cogeneration system, which produces electrical power and hot water using solar power and domestic waste heat. Apart from the above, my education background also covers the technologies of solar power, wind power, air/ground source heat pump, heat pipe and biomass. When I was in China, I gained research experiences in developing high speed train (air condition system, air filter, electric heater and duct silencer).
More importantly, apart from the knowledge I gained from different areas in the last few years, the best harvest for me is the development of the methodology which I can use to identify and tackle the different problems. I liked the saying that it is better to teach people how to fish rather than give them fish. But I think it is more important to teach them how to fish sustainably rather than simply teach people how to fish nowadays.
Technical skills
Skilled in renewable and sustainable energy technologies and developing technologies/systems which deliver higher energy efficiency from the aspects of heat transfer and fluid mechanics; Capable of identifying and evaluating the sustainability from the technical details and system level; a good command of Computing Fluid Dynamics, Solidworks and Autocad; basic skills in Photoshop, Flash and website development.
Mental and physical strength
The high quality work efficiency is not built on the mental stress and physical tiredness but on the positivity and sustainable health. Understanding and practicing the important link among food, thought and fitness enables me to equip myself with a good mental and physical condition to deliver positive results in what I do on a sustainable basis.
